KOLKATA: In an effort to minimise filth air pollution in New Town, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has given a listing of dust-absorbing crops and bushes to the forest division to plant ahead of the coming monsoon.
The authorities are also involved with a German corporate to install a ‘Fine Dust Eater’ machine, which is an eight-feet stationary tower that absorbs fine filth from air.
Officials stated the authorities were trying to eliminate filth and air air pollution by way of sowing particular crops.
The NKDA has already submitted a listing of 21 different bushes and saplings, over 3,000 in number, that may thought to be excellent for air pollution absorption.
The listing include bushes, like shirish, bel, jhau, bakul, kadam, palas and neem. While some of them are suitable to be planted by way of the roads, others will be planted in parks and gardens. Officials stated the bushes will have to be planted with a mixture of two or three varieties on different avenues.
Sources stated the soil mix for planting such bushes will have to have coco peat, paddy husk and sand.
The ‘Fine Dust Eater’ machine, assisted with German technology, will be installed in New Town Action Area 1 on an experimental foundation after the elections.
Part of a pilot venture, the machine is an eight-foot, three-cube stationary tower that may remove the fine filth from air with the assistance of the cubes. The machine is composed of particular filters, IoT devices and rain sensors.
The NKDA have also been planning to install sensor-based air high quality monitoring devices in different points of New Town for a while.
