THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP has wondered the UDF's silence at the state govt's proposal within the Supreme Court that an eight- member-committee type, like the one for Guruyaur temple administration, will have to be set up for the management of Sree Padmanabha swamy temple. The BJP additionally warned the state govt of sturdy protest if it makes a decision to go ahead with the plan to 'usurp’ the temple.
BJP state spokesperson B Gopalakrishnan has alleged that Kerala govt was once looking to deliver the temple and its treasures value crores underneath its control. "The government has no business in any temple. By proposing a Guruvayur-model administration, Pinarayi Vijayan is trying to usurp the temple. The temple and its treasure belongs to the deity and the deity belongs to the devotees. No government has any role in this. BJP would support the protests against the government plans to take over the temple administration," Gopalakrishnan stated.
Padmanabha Swamy temple is one of the richest temples on this planet and the earstwhile Travancore royal circle of relatives, the custodians of the temple, and quite a lot of devotees and Hindu organisations have approached the Supreme Court against a Kerala prime courtroom verdict that the temple could also be taken over via the state govt.
According to the BJP chief, the UDF leaders, especially Congress leaders who declare to have stood for the protection of religion in Sabarimala will have to brazenly declare their stand at the govt's proposal.
"Both these fronts have same objectives. The UDF must be thinking that the proposal would also give them opportunity in the future. Pinarayi Vijayan government will have to pay a heavy price if it goes ahead with its plans to control the temple and its belongings though its nominees. Government should better alter its stand and take steps to ensure that the administration of the temple rests with the devotees, not the government," he stated.
