Deadline for CGWA nod on groundwater not extended

Ludhiana: In a jolt to city businessmen, their request for extension of the March 31 cut-off date for obtaining permission from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) for extracting groundwater in factories has no longer been approved by means of the dept to this point.

The businessmen had pressed for an extension as until date best some of the business units were able to procure permission from the CGWA because of the complexities of the application process. According to businessmen, this new rule of obtaining permissions has made doing industry even more tricky and they're now in a repair on how they will get the essential permissions from the CGWA.


Speaking to IdealNews about the issue, Jaswinder Thukral, president of Janta Nagar Small Scale Manufacturers Association, stated, “From day one, the central government has been bringing out rules and regulations to hit the small industry and favour the corporates. This legislation of applying for permission for having a tubewell or borewell within the manufacturing facility is giving us sleepless nights as no longer best the method of obtaining the permissions is very lengthy, but additionally numerous paperwork are required for the same. As the cut-off date for applying the permissions were given over on March 31, we don’t know what is going to happen to manufacturing facility owners who could no longer apply for the permission. Meanwhile, Upkar Singh Ahuja, president of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), stated, “We have already initiated the method of forming a high-level committee to get to the bottom of the issue of the permissions from the CGWA as this can be a very major problem taking into consideration the existing state of affairs when the March 31 cut-off date is over.
