Karnataka: Three children drown in water tank

MANGALURU: Three kids, together with two siblings, who have been cherishing their summer season vacation, drowned in a water tank that was once constructed to provide ingesting water. The incident came about at Uddangala near Panaje below Puttur Rural police station on Wednesday night.


The deceased are recognized as Vishmitha (13) and her sister Chaithra (10) and Jeethesh (13). The 3 have been students of Mittadka Government School, Bettampady.


According to some people, the tank was once kept open. The kids, who have been fearful to see the content inside of, climbed a couple of steps down the ladder positioned at the inner aspect of the tank. A picture displays the three bodies at the side of a fallen ladder, giving the impression that the ladder can have collapsed, leading to the drowning.


Locals, who amassed at the spot, blamed the panchayat functionaries alleging lack of understanding as they left the tank unlocked.


Sources said the tank was once constructed 3 months ago with a purpose to provide ingesting water to citizens in Bettampady Panchayat limits. The police, who had arrived at the spot, have been but to gather details at the time of submitting this report.
