Fate of former bureaucrats, ministers sealed in 3rd phase

Bhubaneswar: The fate of many heavyweights and public personalities were sealed with the tip of third phase elections on Tuesday when six parliamentary constituencies and 42 assembly segments went to the polls.
At least six ministers have been within the fray in more than a few assembly seats however all eyes have been at the politically-sensitive Ghasipura under Keonjhar Lok Sabha seat where college and mass training minister Badri Narayan Patra is pitted towards OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik.

Political competition took an unsightly flip within the constituency after Niranjan’s vehicle was attacked and a few of his supporters have been injured in a clash.

Debutants Aparajita Sarangi, a former IAS officer, and Arup Patnaik, former Mumbai police commissioner, both contending for Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency, and former Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra also are within the fray within the third phase.

Mishra, a former CRPF DG, has been pitted towards five-time MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and former minister and Congress chief Panchanan Kanungo. “I have witnessed tremendous enthusiasm among citizens this time. I'm hoping the Cuttack parliamentary segment would witness report voting this time,” stated Mahtab after casting his vote.


In Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat, former works secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan locked horns with BJP candidate and Deogarh royal Nitish Gangadeb and former state Congress president Sarat Patnaik. “I have travelled around the seven assembly segments under Sambalpur parliamentary segment. People have favored the nice works done via the BJD executive and they would like Naveen Patnaik as their leader minister for the 5th time,” Pradhan informed newshounds after casting his vote.


Supreme Court legal professional and BJD Puri Lok Sabha candidate Pinaki Mishra solid his vote in Ekamra-Bhubaneswar constituency. Mishra is looking for the fourth time period from the holy town whilst BJP has fielded its tv face Sambit Patra from the constituency. Riding at the Narendra Modi wave, Patra has extensively campaigned within the constituency for the past one month and is expected to give a tricky battle to the lawyer-politician.


Fate of many other senior leaders, including former BJD ministers Sanjay Das Burma from Brahmagiri, Debi Mishra (Badamba), Ranendra Pratap Swain (Athagarh) and Arun Sahoo (Nayagarh), Congress veteran Suresh Routray (Jatni), former state Congress leader Jayadev Jena (Anandpur), senior BJP chief Jaynarayan Mishra (Sambalpur), former town mayor Ananta Jena (Bhubaneswar-Central) and former Union minister K P Singhdeo (Dhenkanal LS seat) were determined on Tuesday.
