NEW DELHI: Former Australia pacer and KXIP bowling coach Ryan Harris still recollects the instant when he disregarded batting legend Sachin Tendulkar in his maiden Test day trip against India.
Harris played 5 Tests against India and claimed 16 wickets but the Australia pacer never got a chance to play against India in India.
Harris, who is now the bowling coaching of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, is guiding younger bowlers.

The former Australian pacer spoke to Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview about Kings XI Punjab’s IPL name chances, the Chris Gayle issue, Australia’s World Cup chances and extra.

What has the journey been like for you as far as the bowling coach of the Kings XI Punjab workforce?
The experience has been magnificent thus far. I got to train and share the sphere with a talented bunch of players. When you may have players from different nations, you share an abundance of experience with each and every different. KXIP have talented bowlers particularly Shami, Arshdeep (Singh) and Ankit (Rajpoot). They are all spectacular.
With Chris Gayle and KL Rahul in the line-up, Kings XI Punjab's batting firepower at the top is bold. How would you rate Punjab's top order batting prowess?
They are each are talented and experienced players. Wherever Chris (Gayle) goes, he rankings runs. I noticed his efficiency against England in England, it used to be outstanding. He has scored numerous runs for West Indies. It is all about his self assurance which is very prime. He gave us (KXIP) a just right start. Hope he continues to do so. KL is once more some other talented and experienced hand for us (KXIP). When they're at the crease, it’s a nightmare for the opposition. At No. 3, we have Mayanka Agarwal who knows methods to maintain (different) situations.
What is the dressing room like with Chris Gayle in the aspect?
He is just right a laugh. He is superb with the younger guys. It is actually just right to have Chris in the aspect. He helps to keep the dressing room setting full of life. Apart from a laugh, he stocks his wisdom with the younger guys.
Once KL Rahul and Chris Gayle are on hearth, it's difficult to prevent them. Do assume they may be able to take KXIP to their maiden name win?
I am hoping so. We don't seem to be striking an excessive amount of force on them (KL and Gayle). They are wonderful guys. They can trouble any bowling assault. The shape they're in is magnificent. Hope they proceed to score a number of runs. We have a bright likelihood of successful the name.
Mohammed Shami is spearheading KXIP’s tempo assault. What's your take on what he brings to the desk?
He is a great performer. He bowls pretty speedy. We shouldn’t put out of your mind his efficiency in Australia. That used to be wonderful. His slower ones and techniques are wonderful. We have discussed issues at the nets. He is talented and an excellent bowler with nice wisdom. Hope he continues to do issues he has been doing. I've also noticed him helping children at the nets.
Do you assume Shami may also be Virat Kohli’s go-to-man at the World Cup?
The shape he is in, I'm sure he will (be). He is bowling just right lengths and just right yorkers. With this way, I'm sure he will do the job for India at the World Cup.
Australia are protecting champions. Do you assume they may be able to retain the World Cup name?
I do consider (that). The means they have got performed against India and Pakistan in their fresh ODI series, it shows they are going to be favourites. There are different giant groups too. With Steve (Smith) and (David) Warner there in the aspect, Australia are a robust aspect for the World Cup. If we have a look at Warner’s shape, he has been magnificent. It is a great sign for Australia.
MS Dhoni's experience will assist the Indian workforce at the World Cup. That will assist Virat Kohli as they eye the name?
Yes, in fact. He (Virat Kohli) can unquestionably take India to victory. India are an excellent aspect. India are lucky to have MS Dhoni in the aspect. He is very experienced. Having such kind of experience is precious. It might be a close tournament as the massive sides are (all) there in the long tournament.
What are your highest recollections of playing against India?
Unfortunately I couldn’t play India in India. I still take into account pushing aside Sachin Tendulkar all the way through the Perth Test (2012) which used to be my first Test against India.
