KOLKATA: A young IT professional, who was allegedly groped and molested at New Town on her manner home on Wednesday night time, was allegedly requested by an officer at New Town police station to get a pen first to hotel her grievance.
The police officers allegedly refused to report the topic as an FIR initially and the lady mentioned she was repeatedly requested by a male officer how precisely she have been groped.
The 23-year-old survivor, however, was accompanied by a friend — who had her phone snatched two days back from the same house and had allegedly suffered harassment on the police station — who recorded the IT professional’s conversation with the police officers within the police station. The lady later sent the audio document to TOI.
The incident highlights the harassment folks continuously face at police stations whilst reporting incidents — particularly relating to crime towards women. Amit Javalgi, DC (HQ), Bidhanngar Police, mentioned they had started a case and larger vigil within the house. But at the allegation of police harassment, the officer mentioned, the lady did not document any grievance relating to that. That allegation could be probed if she writes a separate grievance, the commissioner mentioned.
“The house where the incident took place is secluded and there are a number of under-construction constructions across the house. We are rounding up folks and have larger patrolling within the house. We have started an inquiry into the molestation grievance,” mentioned Javalgi.
Speaking to TOI, the lady mentioned, the incident took place near Shapoorji around 8pm, whilst she have been walking back to her rented home at a housing advanced. Her place of business is at an IT hub in New Town. “I took an auto from my place of business until Eco Space island and from there I started walking to my home. That is when I discovered a group of youths sitting and drinking on the roadside, like different days. As I walked past them, a few of them started teasing me. As I attempted to walk sooner, considered one of them groped me from behind and ran away,” the lady instructed TOI.
Insulted and terrified, the lady ran to her condo and informed the topic to her room-mates and later, went to the police station to hotel a grievance. “My buddy, whose phone was snatched two days in the past, had a deficient experience on the police station and so she made up our minds to report the conversation between me and the police officers on the police station,” she mentioned.
The lady claimed the male officer on the table stored asking her to turn precisely how the person had groped her. “And once I requested him for a pen, he refused give the only he had with him. He requested me to get a pen. Just when I used to be about to send my buddy to buy one, every other buddy of mine managed to persuade a policeman to lend his pen. The officer was even reluctant to regard the grievance as an FIR,” she mentioned.
