TIRUPUR: Four employees from Assam died of asphyxiation while cleansing an effluent tank in a textile washing unit in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Dilwar Hossain, 22, Farooq Ahmed, 21, Anwar Hossain, 23, and Abu, 20. They have been working in a showering unit owned through Jayakumar at Karuppagoundenpalayam in the town.
The unit, which washes materials and finished clothes, has a 20-foot-deep tank to retailer effluent.
The four males have been asked to clean the tank, which had no longer been wiped clean for at least five years.
One of them entered the tank first. He suffered suffocation, and others tried to save him.
Three of them died on the spot while Dilwar died in Tirupur Government Hospital.
Police officers and Tirupur revenue divisional officer conducted investigations.
The unit proprietor was prone to be booked, a police officer said.
