FAZILKA: The state agriculture department's marketing campaign to sensitize farmers to sow cotton seeds as recommended by Punjab Agricultural University on Monday bore fruit when two males selling spurious and substandard cotton seeds were arrested by Abohar police from Rajpura village.
Fazilka chief agricultural officer Manjit Singh said each accused were seeking to trap farmers to purchase spurious cotton seeds from them, however the farmers informed officers smartly in time.
"A team comprising assistant plant protection officer Sarwan Kumar, agriculture development officer Vijay Singh and agriculture sub inspector Praveen Kumar immediately reached the spot. During inspection, the accused could not show any official letter to sell and supply seed in Punjab after which the police was roped into the matter," he said including that the ones arrested were idenified as Hitesh Kumar and Chawra Dharmendra Singh of Gujarat.
