JALANDHAR: A sub-divisional officer (SDO), a junior engineer (JE) and a sub-divisional clerk (SDC) of water provide and sanitation division in Mukerian have been arrested through the Vigilance Bureau for accepting Rs 23,000 as bribe from a maintenance contractor. VB SSP Diljinder Singh Dhilon stated the arrests have been made after Chabbewal-based contractor Sanjeev Kumar's grievance in opposition to the officers for not clearing his annual maintenance invoice of Rs 1.45 lakh in Hajipur house.
"When Sanjeev met JE Manjeet Singh the latter took him to SDO Gurbachan Singh Dadwaal and the two asked for money," Dhilon stated. "They demanded Rs 25,000 and finally settled for Rs 23,000." On Tuesday, when Sanjeev went to their place of job they took him to the place of job of SDC Navdeep Singh who approved the marked currency notes and straight away the VB sleuths, led through Dalbir Singh, raided and recovered the currency and arrested the trio.
