NAGPUR: In line with the Central government’s decision referring to 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) within the basic class in upper schooling, the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-N) has included the quota for its 2019 intake.
The intake for the batch of 2019-21 has been larger to 130 to take in the impact of quota at the previous 120 seats. However, the IIM-N would admit best four students below the new quota from the additional 10 seats.
“We began implementing the scheme by expanding our intake to only 130 for the year 2019-20 on account of infrastructure constraints. However, we will be able to enforce the total 10% quota by the following year, 2020-21 according to government guidelines,” stated IIMN Director Prof L S Murty.
IIM-N is working from a makeshift campus at Bajaj Nagar-based Visvesvarya National Institute of Technology (VNIT). It plans to shift to a larger new campus at Mihan-SEZ from next educational year.
While the Centre has directed all government undertakings and centrally funded tutorial institutions to enforce this quota below the 124th Amendment Bill, 2019 of the Indian Constitution, standards for the implementation for the same in tutorial institutes have yet to be formulated. To facilitate the similar, IIM Nagpur has supplied shortlisted candidates with a layout that permits them to detail their family income and property, with a purpose to be thought to be below the EWS quota. Elaborate guidelines for filing information validated by competent authorities had been conveyed to the candidates. The admission portal at the IIMN web site allows candidates to upload the income and property certificates, whilst also offering a window to make requisite adjustments.
The standards for a candidate to be classified as economically weaker are according to centrally stipulated directions. Persons who don't seem to be coated below the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs and whose family has a gross annual income beneath Rs eight lakh are to be recognized as economically weaker for the good thing about reservation.
Income shall also come with income from all resources i.e. salary, agriculture, industry, occupation, and so on. for the monetary year prior to the year of utility. Also persons whose family owns or possesses any of the following property might be excluded from being recognized as EWS, without reference to the family income: 5 acres of agricultural land and above; residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. and above; residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities; residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in spaces instead of the notified municipalities.
