DUBAI: India's GS Lakshmi has become the first woman to be appointed to ICC's world panel of match referees and will be eligible to officiate in world games with rapid impact.
Claire Polosak had become the first ever woman umpire to face in a males's ODI, previous this month.
Lakshmi, 51, who first officiated as a match referee in home girls's cricket in 2008-09, has overseen 3 girls's ODI matches and three girls's T20I matches.
"To be selected in the international panel by the ICC is a huge honour for me as it opens up new avenues. I have had a long career as a cricketer in India and also as a Match Referee. I hope to put my experience both as a player and as a match official to good use on the international circuit," stated Lakshmi in an ICC observation.
Australia's Eloise Sheridan has joined compatriot Polosak on the ICC building panel of umpires, taking the collection of girls on that panel to seven.
Lauren Agenbag, Kim Cotton, Shivani Mishra, Sue Redfern, Mary Waldron and Jacqueline Williams are the opposite girls officers on that panel. The first woman on the building panel of umpires was Kathy Cross, who retired remaining year.
Adrian Griffith, ICC Senior Manager - Umpires and Referees - hailed Lakshmi and Sheridan's appointment.
"We welcome Lakshmi and Eloise to our panels, which is crucial step forward in our dedication to encouraging girls officers. It is heartening to look their progress and I am certain many extra girls will be inspired to practice their instance.
"We are dedicated to making sure better gender parity among our officers, however all appointments are made purely on advantage. Elevation is as a result of an intensive analysis procedure that identifies probably the most proficient match officers breaking through to a world stage," stated Griffith.
Sheridan was the reserve umpire for 2 matches in the males's Big Bash League 2018-19 and umpired 4 matches in the girls's Big Bash League the similar year. In October 2018, she was the first woman in Australia to umpire a males's first grade Premier Cricket final.
