Pentagon authorizes $1 billion for Trump's border wall

WASHINGTON: The US Department of Defense shifted $1 billion to plot and build a 57-mile section of "pedestrian fencing", roads and lights alongside the border between the United States and Mexico, the Pentagon leader stated on Monday.

Last week, the Pentagon gave Congress a listing that incorporated $12.8 billion of building initiatives for which it stated price range might be redirected for building alongside the US-Mexico border.

US President Donald Trump declared a countrywide emergency last month in a bid to fund his promised border wall with out congressional approval.


Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan stated in a memo to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen that the Department of Defense had the authority to support counter-narcotics actions close to international obstacles.


Shanahan licensed the U.S Army Corps of Engineers to start making plans and executing the challenge that will contain development 57 miles of 18-foot-high fencing, establishing and improving roads, and putting in lights throughout the Yuma and El Paso sections of the US-Mexico border.
