KANPUR: The police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 10 males for allegedly putting bets at the One Day International between India and New Zealand at Green Park Stadium.
All the accused were arrested right through raids at two separat places within the city.
The first raid was once conducted at a space of property broker Virendra Jaiswal from where seven persons, together with Virendra, were arrested.
The police recovered Rs 3.32 lakh, 10 cell phones, an LED TV and a set-top box from their possession.
The different six accused have been recognized as Naseem Akhtar of Pokharpur, Deepak of Bidhnoo, Subhash Chandra of Bidhnoo, Merajul Hasan of Beconganj, Shivam of Chakeri and Brijesh Kumar of Gopalnagar.
Three persons were arrested from a space in Shastrinagar space in another raid.
The accused have been recognized as Firoz Ali of Vijaynagar, Arun Kumar alias Bittu of Shastrinagar and Prabhakar Pandey of Nawabganj. The police right here recocvered Rs 45,500, two cell phones, an LED TV and a set-top box from the home.
A senior police officer mentioned the police had received knowledge that some other folks were putting bets at the match at two separate places within the City.
"After checking the veracity of the information, we conducted raids and arrested ten persons from two different spots," he mentioned.
"A case of betting, besides 66 A IT act has been registered at the Naubasta as well Kakadeo police stations in connection with both the raids," mentioned crime department inspector Manoj Raghuvanshi.
He mentioned the police are move checking the decision main points of all those arrested to verify their hyperlinks with different bookies across the nation. Further investigations are underway.
