Assam BJP MP calls ideas of Nehru, Gandhi 'garbage', sparks row

GUWAHATI: Congress has filed an FIR towards Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, BJP MP from Jorhat, for his statement that folks's minds had been filled with "garbage" through propagating the information of Gandhis and Nehru.


Tasa at a public assembly in Sonari in Charaideo district of upper Assam on Saturday had reportedly stated that folks do not know a lot on the ideology of Deendayal Upadhyaya because their minds are increasingly more being filled up with the "garbage" on the ideas of "Gandhis and Nehru". Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was once also provide on the assembly. In protest, Congress activists took to the streets and burnt Tasa's effigy on Sunday. Tasa answered to the controversy through pronouncing that he had not referred to Mahatma Gandhi, asserting that he could not most likely be so insensitive to the "father of the nation". "I was only referring to the Gandhi family, not Mahatma Gandhi," Tasa stated.


The observation has not placated Congress, alternatively. The celebration has demanded a direct apology. Rajya Sabha MP and state Congress president Ripun Bora stated Tasa's remarks had been defamatory and called for an apology for insulting Mahatma Gandhi and unbiased India's first Prime Minister. "Even United Nations observes October 2 as non-violence day. Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence is globally accepted, while Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's contribution in building modern India is a fact. Tasa's comment has insulted the two most respected figures of India's freedom struggle. It shows how poor his knowledge is on the history of India's freedom movement," Bora charged.


Congress spokesperson Imdad Hussain demanded immediate arrest of Tasa, pronouncing that equating Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi with "garbage" is "highly derogatory". "Tasa has insulted the father of the nation and also independent India's first Prime Minister. He should be arrested without any delay. Sonowal is also responsible because Tasa made the remarks in the chief minister's presence," Hussain stated.
