Duped of Rs 4 lakh by neighbour, woman petitions collector

Coimbatore: A 28-year-old woman, at the side of her three youngsters, petitioned the district collector, T N Hariharan, on Tuesday seeking motion against a family in her neighbourhood that duped her of Rs four lakh.

R Manipriya, 28, of Nallampalayam, in her compliant mentioned the members of the family had additionally threatened her of dire penalties when she requested them to return the money.

Manipriya mentioned she have been living in a rental space at the side of her husband Thangadurai, a automobile driving force, and 3 youngsters. "We sold our property located at Kavundampalayam for Rs 4 lakh. At that time, our neighbour Thilagavathi, 40, and her son Sudhakar, 22, approached us for Rs 4 lakh for the treatment of her husband Senthilkumar. We gave them the amount but there is no document to prove such a transaction took place," she mentioned.

When Manipriya and her husband approached Thilagavathi and family on October 18 tough the money again, they denied having borrowed the money and allegedly threatened them with dire penalties. "We were threatened by Thilagavathi, Sudhakar and her relatives Baskaran, Malar and Mala," Manipriya mentioned.


The couple in an instant approached the Thudiyalur police, but they didn't take any motion.


"Thilagavathi and her family members are demanding Rs 2 lakh from us and threatened us with dire consequences," mentioned Manipriya who at the side of her youngsters met the collector at the district collectorate on Tuesday.


The collector has forwarded the petition to the district superintendent of police, Pa Moorthy who has directed the Thudiyalur police to conduct an in depth inquiry.
