PANAJI: The state govt is contemplating splitting the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) into three PDAs — coastal PDA, Panaji PDA and Greater Panaji PDA, which will include portions of Taleigao and Bambolim.

Speaking to TOI, the city and country making plans minister Vijai Sardesai said he had a gathering with leader minister to divide NGPDA into three PDAs as the government feels that the making plans spaces should be expanded.
At present there are three PDAs in the state. NGPDA, South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) and Vasco Planning and Development Authority (VPDA).
Panaji, Calangute and Taleigao come beneath NGPDA, whilst Ponda and Margao come beneath SGPDA and Mormugao and Vasco comes beneath VPDA.
Sardesai said that there is a want for a deliberate construction in the state. He additionally said there's fast construction in Bambolim and Taleigao, so a separate PDA is required for better management and better making plans.
"We want to have separate PDA for coastal areas like Candolim, Calangute and Baga which are growing very fast. A separate PDA is required for Panaji as it is the capital city," he said.
The department of NGPDA is noticed as a thanksgiving to former St Cruz MLA Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate who helped leader minister Manohar Parrikar to win the new bypoll in Panaji. Monserrate, who joined Goa Forward Party, helped Parrikar secure a huge margin in the bypoll. Earlier, Monserrate had announced that he would contest the Panaji bypoll. Monserrate had contested the 2017 assembly elections and lost to the BJP candidate in Panaji by way of a narrow margin of around 1,069 votes.
"We will discuss this issue of separating NGPDA in length at October 30 town and country planning board meeting," Sardesai said.
Asked whether he has similar plans for SGPDA and VPDA, Sardesai said that there is not any fast construction in South Goa so he is of the opinion that SGPDA and VPDA needn't be touched.
