India's first all-woman crew on circumnavigation of globe arrives in Australia

PANAJI: INSV Tarini with its team of six girls officers arrived at Fremantle Australia after sailing for 43 days to finish the first leg of the Navika Sagar Parikrama expedition, the first-ever attempt by an all-woman Indian team to circumnavigate the globe.


The staff is masking 21,600 nautical miles all over the world in eight months and will go back to Verem, Goa from the place they do away with. The 17-metre yacht, INSV Tarini has been in-built Goa at Divar by Aquarius Shipyard. The circumnavigation shall be lined in five legs, with four stopovers at Fremantle (Australia), Lyttelton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falkland Islands) and Cape Town (South Africa).


The six girls had been trained in repairing onboard apparatus, communication, climate prediction and ocean navigation.


The staff which is led by skipper Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi includes Lieutenant Commander Pratibha Jamwal, Lieutenant Commander Swathi P., Lieutenant Aishwarya Boddapati, Lieutenant Sh Vijaya Devi and Lieutenant Payal Gupta.
