State likely to split N Goa planning body into three

Panaji: The state government is contemplating splitting the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) into 3 PDAs — coastal PDA, Panaji PDA and Greater Panaji PDA, which will come with parts of Taleigao and Bambolim.

The the town and nation making plans board which is anticipated to satisfy on October 30 is most probably to speak about this issue in detail.

Speaking to TOI, the town and nation making plans minister Vijai Sardesai stated he had a meeting with leader minister to divide NGPDA into 3 PDAs as the federal government feels that the making plans spaces must be expanded.

At present there are 3 PDAs in the state. NGPDA, South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) and Vasco Planning and Development Authority (VPDA).

Panaji, Calangute and Taleigao come beneath NGPDA, while Ponda and Margao come beneath SGPDA and Mormugao and Vasco comes beneath VPDA.

Sardesai stated that there's a need for a planned construction in the state. He also stated there's speedy construction in Bambolim and Taleigao, so a separate PDA is needed for higher administration and higher making plans.

"We want to have separate PDA for coastal areas like Candolim, Calangute and Baga which are growing very fast. A separate PDA is required for Panaji as it is the capital city," he stated.

The division of NGPDA is noticed as a thanksgiving to former St Cruz MLA Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate who helped leader minister Manohar Parrikar to win the recent bypoll in Panaji. Monserrate, who joined Goa Forward Party, helped Parrikar secure an enormous margin in the bypoll. Earlier, Monserrate had introduced that he would contest the Panaji bypoll. Monserrate had contested the 2017 assembly elections and lost to the BJP candidate in Panaji by a slender margin of round 1,069 votes.

"We will discuss this issue of separating NGPDA in length at October 30 town and country planning board meeting," Sardesai stated.

Asked whether he has similar plans for SGPDA and VPDA, Sardesai stated that there is not any speedy construction in South Goa so he's of the opinion that SGPDA and VPDA need not be touched.
