Belagavi: Various Kannada organizations have condemned chief minister Siddaramaiah's observation at the iciness session of the state legislature, proposing to carve out on or two districts inside Belagavi.
Speaking to journalists here on Monday, Ashok Chandargi, president of district motion committee of Kannada organizations, said that his group is not going to permit department of the district. Kannada activist and previous mayor Siddanagouda Patil said that it is not essential to divide Belagavi district within the name of development and this type of transfer will empower the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) to start out anti-Karnataka actions within the region.
In 1997, then chief minister J H Patel decided to divide Belagavi into 3 districts. As in keeping with his plan, Belagavi, Khanapur and Hukkeri were to be included in Belagavi district; Chikkodi, Athani and Raibag in Chikkodi district and Bailhongal, Ramdurg and Gokak in Gokak district.
However, Kannada activists started agitations, forcing the government to change its resolution. "They succeeded in convincing the government that a majority of Kannadigas will suffer and the decision will help Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) to carry out anti-state activities in Belagavi city. It's unfortunate that the present CM has resorted to commit the same mistake," said Patil.
