Afghanistan stun Pakistan by 185 runs to clinch Under-19 Asia Cup

Riding on Ikram Ali's unbeaten 107, Afghanistan registered a stunning 185-run victory over Pakistan to clinch the Under-19 Asia Cup for the first time on the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Afghanistan posted 248 for 7. In reaction, Pakistan had been bundled for simply 63 in 22.1 overs, Mujeeb Zadran returned with the bright figures of 5 for 13. Mujeeb, the off-spinner, had taken 6 for 23 in the league fit between the sides, which too Afghanistan had received, by seven wickets.

Mujeeb, who completed the event with 20 wickets from five fits, got rid of Mohammad Arif (4) and Omair Yousuf (zero), the openers, early in the chase, giving Afghanistan keep watch over over proceedings after Ikram had helped it rack up the runs.

The early wobble brought about panic in the Pakistan camp, and the Afghanistan bowlers took full advantage of the placement.

Qais Ahmad, the leg-spinner, chipped in with 3 for 18 in six overs to lend strengthen to Mujeeb, and the wickets saved tumbling in quick succession.

With the power of the general bogging them down, as many as 9 Pakistan batsmen failed to achieve double-figures, and Afghanistan wrapped up the tail very easily to achieve victory.

Earlier, sent in to bat, Afghanistan had were given off to a good start, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (40) and Ibrahim Zadran (36) hanging on a 61-run partnership off 108 balls for the opening wicket.

Once Gurbaz fell, stuck by Muhammad Arif off Muhammad Musa, Pakistan sensed an opening. But Ikram foiled its plans with his good knock to singlehandedly raise Afghanistan past 200.

Ibrahim was once stuck off Mohammad Taha in the 27th over, and after that, there was once rarely any strengthen for Ikram from the other end. Pakistan, on the other hand, could not break Ikram's resistance, with the batsman retaining the scoreboard ticking with ten limitations and two sixes in his innings.

Musa, who stricken the top and middle-order batsmen with figures of 3 for 46, was once ably supported by Shaheen Afridi, the left-arm pacer who bagged 2 for 42 to inflict some past due harm.

In the top, Afghanistan had greater than enough at the board to get the easier of Pakistan in its first access into the general. Afghanistan had crashed out on the semi-final level in the earlier three editions.
