After Jaipur, Guwahati municipal corporation to make national anthem must

GUWAHATI: Following swimsuit of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) in Rajasthan, the BJP-ruled Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has issued a directive to its personnel to sing the national anthem each morning. Mayor Mrigen Sarania said the proposal shall be placed on the mayor and council assembly on Thursday.

"We have decided to make singing of our national anthem at our office every morning mandatory but we have to pass this in the council meeting. On November 2, we are placing the proposal in the mayor and council meeting and we want to implement it immediately after the council passes it," Sarania instructed TOI.

Sarania said making a song of the national anthem at 10 am on each working day can be compulsory for all employees of the corporation. "Those employees who have to report to field duty early in the morning may be exempted initially, but those working in the corporation office will have to follow the rule," he said.

Sarania said the move to make making a song the national anthem every day in workplace has two primary advantages. "We intend to make singing of the national anthem at 10 am before the employees get down to work. This would ensure that everyone reaches office on time and more importantly, I believe that after starting work by singing the national anthem, everybody will desist from any wrongdoings at their workplace."

After the final determination is taken, the corporation will inform the state executive, added Sarania.

On Tuesday, which was the primary day of this rule's imposition in Rajasthan's capital town, work started in the morning on the JMC headquarters with compulsory making a song of the national anthem.
