KANPUR: Neelam Gupta, a former lady brigand and spouse of slain dacoit Nirbhay Singh Gujjar, who unfold terror in Chambal ravines for almost 3 many years, has introduced to contest nagar palika elections from Etawah as an independent candidate. She has promised to help weaker sections, specifically ladies.

Neelam, who had deserted Nirbhay Singh Gujjar and escaped with Shyam Jatav, foster son of Gujjar, had several criminals cases including homicide, loot, dacoity, arson and kidnapping towards her. She, at the side of Jatav, had surrendered ahead of antidacoity court in 2004. She has been acquitted in many dacoity, kidnapping, loot, arson and homicide cases and used to be in any case released from jail in February 2017.

"I am back again, but in an entirely different role. If people create an opportunity for me, I will work and fight for them for their genuine cause. I would create a special grievance cell for championing the cause of women," stated Neelam while talking to TOI. Brimming with self assurance, she instructed TOI that she had offers from more than a few political events however she would likely contest as an independent candidate from Etawah Nagar Palika chairperson post. I was a sufferer of social stig ma however now I need to serve the society by way of joining politics. I need to commit the rest of my lifestyles in countering crime cases towards women and girls," Neelam stated.


Neelam stated she had started canvassing and used to be getting good fortify from locals of Etawah.


A relative of Neelam narrated to TOI the ordeal that she went via at a young age. Neelam used to be kidnapped by way of Nirbhay Singh Gujjar when she used to be just 12. " At that point she used to be learning in school VI in a school of the village," he stated.


After languishing in jail for 12 years, she used to be released in Feb 2017. " After Neelam deserted Nirbhay , the latter had declared a reward of Rs 21 lakh to someone who introduced her (Neelam) lifeless or alive," he stated.

In 2006, she joined the Indian Justice Party; in January 2008 she used to be with the Lok Janshakti Party .
