Gurgaon: Work on the Greater Southern Peripheral Road (GSPR) project, to attach Mehrauli in Delhi to IMT in Manesar, is more likely to start soon, as it is loose from criminal hurdles.
Huda had began acquisition of land for the 40km-long GSPR in 2016, however confronted a challenge from a land owner. Punjab and Haryana high courtroom has vacated the stay on the acquisition, giving a recent push to the road project.
According to a senior Huda legitimate, the state government is now carrying out a feasibility survey of the project. "The initial survey had indicated the project was not viable due to high cost of land acquisition. That's why, a fresh feasibility study is now being carried out, as per the transit oriented development (TOD) policy," said the legitimate, adding the federal government is exploring ways to make the project possible.
With the stay vacated, Huda is making plans to hurry up land acquisition. PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh instructed TOI that he'll meet with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and different concerned agencies to speak about ways and manner of creating the road for better connectivity. He also said the road could have the status of national freeway.
The project is anticipated to facilitate smooth glide of site visitors from Delhi to Manesar's commercial space. For GSPR, about 395 acres of land in 8 villages needs to be received. These villages include Aklimpur (5.95 acres), Tekliki (62.95 acres), Sakatpur (68.90 acres), Sikohour (15.92 acres), Naurangpur (49.40 acres), Bar Gujjar (99.13 acres), Nainwal (59.92 acres) and Manesar (33.15 acres).
At present, NH-Eight, also known as the Gurgaon-Jaipur expressway, is the only road connecting Delhi with Manesar's commercial areas. But it passes through Gurgaon, and owing to heavy site visitors, commuters on this expressway often face large site visitors jams, which very much increases the go back and forth time.
The road can be 90m-wide with a 30m-green belt on both sides. As in keeping with the plan, the land can be received by Huda and passed over to NHAI for construction. There can be a gap of 2.5km between the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and GSPR. The construction of this road will benefit areas being evolved beneath the Gurgaon extension plan (Sohna Development Plan).
The project was planned after industrialists requested the executive minister to supply better connectivity between Delhi and Manesar at the Happening Haryana Summit previous this yr.
Land acquisition is a big challenge for the project, because the repayment cost has long gone up a number of times during the previous few years. "In Shikohpur village alone, the compensation cost is around Rs 11 crore, where it should not have been more than Rs 5 crore," said a senior legitimate, pleading anonymity.
He also said the project has large financial implications, because of rising repayment prices.
