GHAZIABAD: A 16-year-old woman student of class XI from a prominent college in Nehru Nagar has lodged a complaint against a person in his mid-30s for following her, threatening her and passing lewd feedback for closing 11 months.
At first, Ghaziabad police didn't sign in any case and asked her father, a professor of global finance, to come later, but if her uncle tweeted to the UP DGP narrating the plight of the woman, a case under phase 354 (outraging modesty of a girl) was registered on Sunday.
"The harassment started in January this year, when this person blocked my path near Ghaziabad Bus stand crossing and proposed me. I did not pay any attention to this and just moved away from the spot. This man also vanished for several months and reappeared only in July. He used to come to my school and used to pester me. It went on for some time, and once again he was nowhere to be seen," the woman told TOI.
"But, suddenly on November 16 I found him following me in a car. He had put up a mask and making lewd signs. Next day also he was following me on a bike and carrying a butcher's knife. He made sign that he would slit my throat. I got perturbed and narrated the entire incident to my father, who approached Sihani Gate police, but no case was registered on that day," she added.
Her father said, "I was told that chief minister Yogi Adityanath was coming on November 18 and the entire force was busy in making his security arrangement."
However, a tweet to public relation officer, DGP headquarters, fetched desired outcome and Ghaziabad straight away registered an FIR within the matter.
SHO (Sihani Gate) Vinod Kumar Pandey said, "The matter is under investigation, and we will very shortly nab the accused."
