Coimbatore: It is as much as the policemen to lift the picture of the police division among public, DGP TK Rajendran instructed police workforce who attended a grievances redressal meet here on Saturday.

Prompt reaction and sensitivity toward sufferers would improve the picture of the department, he mentioned whilst addressing about 1,200 police workforce from around the west zone, who had come to present petitions to him, mostly searching for transfers, at the Police Recruitment School (PRS) school campus. "Policemen should weight pros and cons of the complaints, analyse them judiciously and take fair decisions. It's our duty to serve the people," Rajendran mentioned.

The division had earlier carried out grievances redressal meets at the south zone (Madurai), north zone (Kancheepuram) and central zone (Trichy). "We received 682 petitions each from the police personnel attached to the north and central zones. As many as 1,054 petitions were received from the south zone. We have received 1,242 petitions from west zone. Most of the personnel want transfer to other districts, ranges and zones. A group of cops petitioned for reduction in their punishment and another set petitioned seeking promotions," the DGP mentioned.


"Many cops from the west zone have requested transfer to Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts. If we transfer all of them to the south zone from the west zone, the entire west zone will face a huge manpower shortage and will suffer. So, a set of cops will be transferred soon," he mentioned.


A brand new batch of recruits is present process training from November 1, Rajendran mentioned. " Many youths were recruited from the south zone. After their training, whoever wants transfers from the west zone to south will get it," he mentioned.
