JAMMU: High-altitude areas in Jammu witnessed the season's first heavy blizzard which led to closure of the Mughal Road, the change link between Kashmir and rest of the country, for vehicular visitors.
The day temperature in Jammu the day past dipped six degrees beneath standard.
Officials said around two toes of snow had amassed on the ground between Peer Ki Gali and Pushana, a 20-km stretch alongside the Mughal Road connecting Poonch district with south Kashmir's Shopian district.
"No vehicle was allowed either from Poonch or Shopian this morning as the Mughal Road was temporarily closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall in and around Peer Ki Gali," Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Mohammad Aslam advised PTI.
He said if climate permits, the operation to transparent the road would be carried out later these days.
"The agencies concerned are ready for road clearance operation, but bad weather is hampering their efforts," the officer said, including no car was once stranded on the road.
According to officers, the 300-km Jammu-Srinagar nationwide highway, the all climate road between Kashmir and rest of the country, is open, but commuters have been asked to steer clear of night travel because of risk of landslides and capturing of stones.
Sinthan Top, alongside the Kishtwar-Anantnag road recorded over three toes of snow since November 15, the day when over two-month-long dry spell led to Jammu and Kashmir.
Due to the existing climate stipulations, each day and night temperatures plummeted in most portions of Jammu area during the last few days with town recording a low of 11.2 degrees Celsius, an MeT administrative center spokesperson said.
He said the minimum temperature recorded at Banihal was once four.6 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah four.8 degrees Celsius and Batotote 5 degrees Celsius.
