Thirumoorthy falls overflows, bathing banned

Tirupur: The public works division continued its ban on vacationers from taking tub in Panchalingam falls at Thirumoorthy hills in Udumalpet taluk on Sunday, because the falls is overflowing.

With the northeast monsoon continuing to lash the hills and its catchment areas, the water flow at the falls in Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) has larger. The PWD banned the bathing on Friday.

Meanwhile, the water stage at Thirumoorthy dam stood at 46.92 ft in opposition to the whole capacity of 60 ft on Sunday. The dam's inflow used to be 140 cusecs whilst outflow used to be 25 cusecs. The water is mainly launched from the dam for consuming goal, said the PWD resources.

Once the water stage in the dam reaches round 55 ft, the water can be launched for irrigation goal under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) scheme. As consistent with the time table, this January, the water should be launched to 95,000 acres of agricultural lands coming under Zone IV of the scheme, said the resources.
