Want better power supply, say voters in rural Gautam Budh Nagar

GREATER NOIDA: Gautam Budh Nagar on Sunday recorded a voter turnout of 61.65% in the municipal company elections. The poll procedure in six zones — Dadri (57.71%), Jewar (65.31%), Jahangirpur (74.16%), Rabupura (55.95%), Dankaur (72.23%) and Bilaspur (72.16%) — remained peaceful. District Justice of the Peace B N Singh, SSP Love Kumar and other officials camped at different locations to make sure that the elections were free and honest.

A complete of 60 candidates are contesting for the post of Nagar Nigam chairman and 333 are contesting for the post of members of Nagar Palika Parishad in those spaces.

B N Singh said that the management had made elaborate arrangements for peaceful elections. "I visited some polling booths in Dadri, Dankaur and Jewar and inspected the arrangements. I also talked to the voters and they were satisfied. I can say that overall, the polls in the district remained free, fair and peaceful," he said.

Voters need the new representatives to ship on building. Rahisan (60), a resident of Bilaspur village, said the area has no building. "The electricity supply is only for a few hours here. The roads are also in a dilapidated condition. There are some government schools in the neighbourhood but the quality of education is not good. We hope our representative will address these issues once elected," she said.

Some people in Dadri house complained that they discovered their names were removed from voter's list without their knowledge. "I have been living in this area for 20 years. I used to cast vote at the Mihir Bhoj Inter College, Dadri. On Sunday, when I approached the polling booth, the official said my name was not in the roll," said Suresh Kumar, an area resident.

Neetu, a resident of Daulat Ram colony in Dadri, alleged that a local lady thrashed her when she was returning house after casting her vote in Agrasen School.

"The accused Seema Sharma asked me whom I had voted. She thrashed me when I refused to reveal it. She also snatched my voter ID and mobile phone," she said. Dadri police said they've registered a case and investigating the subject.

The counting of votes will likely be held on December 1.
