Tirupur: A 41-year-old guy and his 37-year-old wife from Thanjavur, who have been attacked by means of a drunkard on the Old Bus Stand in Tirupur on Friday night time, are undergoing remedy on the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.
Okay Selvaraj and his wife S Nagalakshmi from Pattukottai in Thanjavur district had come to the buck town looking for jobs on Friday, police sources said. "They were agricultural workers struggling to make ends meet. After a day-long search for jobs, they decided to sleep in the bus stand. Meanwhile, Selvaraj went to a nearby liquor shop to consume alcohol. There he met 56-year-old V Thangavel, who used to do odd jobs in hotels across the city. Both consumed liquor together and returned to the bus stand," a police officer said.
Thangavel, who used to often sleep on the bus stand, had a quarrel over space with Selvaraj. "Seeing Thangavel hitting her husband, Nagalakshmi tried to stop him. Thangavel took a beer bottle and hit Nagalakshmi. She received injuries on her cheek and hip. Selvaraj also sustained minor injuries," the officer added.
Tirupur south police rushed the couple first to the Tirupur Government Hospital after which to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. They registered a case against Thangavel underneath various Sections including 307 of IPC (try to homicide) and remanded him in judicial custody.
