Udhagamandalam: Commuters on Saturday have to go through tricky occasions as about 514 government buses have been used for the MGR centenary birthday party in Ooty. Due to this, 60 services between Ooty and other districts and 25 local services within the district have been cancelled. Of the 514 buses, 450 buses from Coimbatore and and Erode divisions of TNSTC have been to carry AIADMK party employees from various places.
"Saturday and Sunday are lean days. So cutting down services would not affect much," said Ganesan, common supervisor, TNSTC - Ooty department. Besides, many faculty buses and personal mini-buses have been also used for transporting party employees to the venue. "To bring beneficiaries of welfare measures to the venue, the government would bear the transportation charges. But for transporting party workers, the local AIADMK functionaries should pay the bill," said Ganesan.
