Gymkhana GM suspended, deputy commissioner to probe deals

GURUGRAM: In a brand new twist to the ongoing controversy over leasing out the open area of Gymkhana Club in Sector 29 to a tent space through Huda, divisional commissioner D Suresh on Thursday suspended the membership's normal manager and ordered Gurgaon's deputy commissioner to behavior a probe into its alleged irregularities.
"Gymkhana's general manager Ankit Lamba has been suspended with immediate effect for a fair and impartial probe. He was not served any notice as he is in possession of all the documents of the club. Contracts given by the club is sucking its resources causing deterioration in its services," Suresh, who is also the president of the membership, advised TOI.

Apart from Lamba's appointment, Gurgaon DC Vinay Pratap Singh will examine all the contracts given out through Gymkhana, together with that to Billu Tent House for the development of a dinner party hall on the membership's open area, officers said.

Suresh additionally directed that Gymkhana should be exclusive to its contributors and their quick family members, and executive officers. The maximum arguable contract was to rent out the membership's land to Billu Tent House for the development of a dinner party hall. "Huda first entered into a contract with Billu Tent House in 2007, which was renewed from time to time by changing its terms and conditions for the past 10 years. A contract can't be renewed or its clauses altered withouta fresh tender," said Suresh.


The initial contract was to permit Billu Tent House to arrange its tent for marriage and different purposes to those that e-book the membership's area. Later Huda modified the terms and made it necessary for other people to have interaction Billu Tent House otherwise they would have to pay Rs 60,000 as compensation to the company.
