Belagavi: The 14-day EKUVERIN, a joint army training involving the Gorkha Regiment of Indian Army and Maldives National Defence Forces, concluded on the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) here on Thursday.
The contingent of each the nations participated in the ultimate rite which featured cultural programmes like kalaripayattu by way of Madras Regiment Centre and malakhamb by way of MLIRC. The Gorkhas displayed their agility with khukri while Assam Regimental Centre showcased their warrior talents. The Pipe and Drum Bank of Simroor Rifles grabbed the attention.
Observer of the Indian contingent, Brigadier Alok Khurana said that the scope of workout used to be countering terrorism state of affairs in city and semi-urban localities. The exercises have been conducted at indoor and outside localities, he said.
Brigadier Khurana said that even supposing Maldives has an overly small military, its operation procedures have been worthy to take note. "There was a lot to learn from the Maldives contingent," he said.

"We shared techniques because terrorists are the common enemies to both the countries. They are terrorists and they don't have boundaries. A single country can't fight terrorism. Hence, defence cooperation with other countries helps in countering terrorism," he said.
