Belagavi: Karnataka is giving the best worth for sugarcane, said small scale industries and sugar minister Geetha Mahadev Prasad right here on Thursday.
Speaking to newshounds after inaugurating the residential training college, stem mobile laboratory and soil take a look at centre at S Nijalingappa Sugarcane Research Institute, she said: "According to the present FRP, the price for per tonne sugarcane of 9.5% recovery is Rs 2,550. The sugarcane grown in Belagavi gets Rs 2,939 per tonne as the recovery is high. This price is being given to the cane supplied at the gate of sugar factory while Rs 650 is fixed for harvesting and transportation of per tonne. Thus it can be said that Karnataka is giving highest price for sugarcane in country."
The minister informed that beneath the earnings sharing system, 70% of the source of revenue generated from sugar, molasis, bagassosis and other wastes is going to farmers and the remaining to sugar factories.
Dr Ajay Nagbhushan, MD, Sugar Development Board, said that as consistent with the file submitted to the government, Soubhagyalaxmi Sugar manufacturing facility, owned by district minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, does not have any pending bill.
"However, we have come to know that farmers are on strike in this regard. The board has directed the deputy commissioner to give a detailed report in 15 days. The board will take measures to clear the dues of farmers if there are any pending bills and also take action against the factory," he said.
