RAIPUR: A natural world activist has filed a petition in Mahasamund courtroom searching for path from courtroom to sign in an FIR towards eight policemen and two woodland officials for brutal killing of a sloth bear in March 2016 that had earlier mauled 3 persons. Chhattisgarh woodland department had drawn sharp criticism when the Schedule 1 animal - a wild bear was once riddled with 16 bullets in a decision taken "in haste", on orders of deputy DFO.
The bear had mauled 3 persons together with deputy woodland ranger in March last 12 months when two villagers had gone into woodland to assemble mahua fruit and in an attempt to save them the ranger intervened and were given killed.
Forest department's senior officials had admitted to the error and had been quoted as pronouncing that local woodland officials had been supposed to hunt permission from PCCF Wildlife before capturing down the bear or any natural world animal. It was once found that the officials did not seek permission and introduced shoot by way of policemen, which was once violation of Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Although in emergency scenario the place it turns into necessary to kill the animal as an act of self protection, they'll proceed, but an investigation was once ordered.
