No one has the right to spoil our language: Pranab Patnaik

Eminent playback singer of Odia cinema Pranab Kishore Patnaik has been ruling the trade with his soulful voice for over five decades. The ghazal maestro decided on for Jaydev Samman-the best possible movie award of the state for his contribution to Odia films, spoke about past, provide and long term of movie song in Odisha in an interview with Minati Singha .

Q: How do you're feeling after receiving Jaydev Samman? Do you suppose it used to be not on time?

A: I'm more than pleased. With this award I got popularity. I'm in reality grateful to the jury participants and in addition to buddies, family and fans. I do not believe it's not on time. I believe issues happen when destined to be, neither prior to nor later.

Q: Some raised question as you are the first playback singer to get this award. What are your perspectives on it?

A: I do not wish to deliver any unfavourable idea to my thoughts. I do not pay any heed to such controversy. People elevating inquiries to awards are a common phenomenon. I believe it has opened doorways for plenty of more gifted singers to get this award in long term.

Q: How would you describe your musical adventure over the past five decades?

A: I feel in reality lucky to get a chance with virtually all song directors of Odia movie trade. Starting from Bhubaneswar Mishra, Balakrushna Das, Upendra Kumar, Santanu Mohapatra, Akshay Mohanty, Prafulla Kar, Basudev Rath until the contemporary song directors. Each of them used to be different from the other and had influenced my singing immensely and explored my voice in myriad techniques.

Q: What are your perspectives about provide day movie songs and lyrics?

A: I feel sorry for the lyrics. We don't have any right to break our language. Whatever be the mood of a music be it sad or romantic or comedy the language must be direct and have some meaning and sense. How are you able to make a woman bare in your song? I feel nowadays's songs are confusion, pollution and with none dimension. And that is the reason why they are not lasting.

Q: Are you getting provides to sing in this day and age?

A: yes, I've some just right songs, which I will file soon. But now-a-days I refused many proposals and gives. Some other folks come with badly-written songs and able to pay me heavily. I do not wish to lose my title, which I earned through my hard work and dedication for song.

Q: Any remorseful about you have in lifestyles?

A: During my suffering days in Mumbai, I used to be decided on for playback in two songs for legendary composer duo Shankar Jaikishan. Everything used to be able however a couple of hours prior to the recording Jaikishan ji fell sick and admitted in medical institution. And after a couple of days he passed away. Following which all scheduled recordings have been cancelled. I wish if I will have got a chance to file those two songs most certainly I would have been elsewhere.

Q: Your voice took Odia Ghazal to a new classical height. Are you specifically skilled for this?

A: Not in truth. My voice is God talented and of course I do numerous riyaz (apply) and handle it. I do not yell or shout. I talk less. I'm the only Ghazal singer in Odisha. I learnt the gayaki (style) when I used to be a pupil of graduation in Aligarh Muslim University. I had many Muslim buddies and I learnt Urdu from them, which used to be like my mom tongue. I learnt a lot via singing songs of Mirza Ghalib, Naqvi and other nice Urdu poets and of singers like Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Hariharan and so forth.

Q: Your message for younger and upcoming singers?

A: Music is one thing spiritual and immensely robust. It can cure most cancers and effect growth of crops. If you can not fall in love with song, how can it love you? Have a blank center and do not lose your temper. Keep studying, continue apply, have dedication, luck will likely be yours.
