NOIDA: The Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Associations (CONRWA) on Thursday wrote to Mahesh Sharma, Union minister of state, ministry of environment, forests and local weather alternate (EF&CC) regarding air pollution generated by small and heavy business vehicles at a number of toll plazas in Delhi and NCR, and prompt measures to keep watch over it.
P S Jain, president, CONRWA stated, "The long queues of small commercial vehicles such as taxis, tempos to heavy industrial vehicles like trucks, etc at these borders during morning and evening hours in the name of MCD and green toll tax collection leads to immense pollution, that gets assimilated in the air bordering Delhi-NCR. Average waiting period of these vehicles during peak traffic hours is 30 to 45 minutes leading to long spells of diesel pollution generation. This needs to stop if we aim for a cleaner environment," stated Jain.
In the letter, CONRWA prompt that both MCD and green toll be scrapped altogether or provision be made for one-time toll collection from those vehicles or a monthly pass be issued to curb their queuing up at toll plazas.
