BHUBANESWAR: The Telangana govt introduced its strengthen for the Odisha govt on the Polavaram issue which is being implemented in Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana deputy leader minister Kadiyam Srihari, who met Odisha leader minister Naveen Patnaik on the state secretariat on Friday mentioned, "As far as Polavaram is concerned, we are with the Odisha government."
Though the chief minister's place of business here termed the meeting a 'courtesy call', assets mentioned both the leaders discussed the Polavaram issue at length.
"I came here to call on the Odisha chief minister here. During the discussion he (Naveen) have me a note on Polavaram and requested our government and chief minister to extend our support on the stand taken by the state government on Polavaram," Srihari mentioned.
Asked about the stand of Telangana govt on the undertaking, Srihari mentioned they have got already made their stand clear on the issue since Telangana is equally loser on Polavaram.
The state govt has been vehemently opposing the controversial undertaking because the undertaking, in its current design, would submerge 25 habitations in Motu tehsil in Malkangiri district and inundate round 7656 hectares of agriculture and wooded area land. Chhattisgarh may be in opposition to the undertaking but even so Odisha and Telangana.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to not permit its development. He had also adversarial the undertaking on the inter-state council meet held in New Delhi closing week.
An original petition filed by the Odisha govt within the Supreme Court in 2007 opposing the undertaking and clearances given to it is also sub-judice.
