Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation has after all woken up from its deep slumber and began eliminating illegal hoardings and flexes erected by means of AIADMK males within the town on Friday. Earlier, the Madras prime court docket had rapped the company for permitting illegal hoardings and flexes to come back up within the town.
Even as leader minister Edappadi Okay Palaniswami arrived within the town and defended erection of the arches, company group of workers went round eliminating the illegal buildings. Advocate B Balaji stated the Supreme Court in an order dated January 18, 2013 directed the chief secretary to take care of established order and no longer grant any permission for set up of any statue or development of any structure in public roads, pavements, sideways and other public application puts. "Tamil Nadu was one of the respondents in the case in which the erection of the statue of the late N Sundaran Nadar in Kerala was an issue. The case is still pending in the court with the last hearing held on November 11, 2017," he stated.
He stated a contempt plea may also be filed against the chief secretary, home secretary, municipal administration and water supply division secretary for non-compliance of the Supreme Court order.
The Supreme Court specifically stated then that its order shall no longer practice to set up of prime mast lights, side road lights or development in terms of electrification, traffic, toll or for building and beautification of the streets, highways, roads, and so forth., and in terms of public application and facilities. "The above order is applicable to all states and Union territories," stated Balaji.
Citing the similar Supreme Court order, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause Okay Kathirmathiyon stated the chief secretary and other senior officials, including the district collector and company commissioner, will have to be held liable for illegal hoardings.
"I am also going to file contempt petitions against the district collector and the corporation commissioner for not complying with the high court order. What is the point of having laws if they are not followed or enforced? Unless an IAS officer is held responsible and punished by the court, such practices will not stop," he stated.
