CM: Government will protect fireworks industry

COIMBATORE: The state government will take all measures to protect the fireworks business in Sivakasi, mentioned leader minister Edappadi Okay Palaniswami.

Talking to newshounds in Coimbatore on Friday, Palaniswami mentioned that steps may also be taken to convey an modification to Environment Protection Act, so that the fireworks business would be exempted from the purview of the Act.


The fireworks business has been protesting in opposition to the stringent laws imposed for sale and bursting of crackers around the country, particularly the ban on crackers in New Delhi. Earlier this 12 months, the business and business institutions in entire town of Sivakasi shut down expressing cohesion with the fireworks business. The fireworks gadgets are on an indefinite strike announcing that the ban was crippling the business and making manufacturing unviable. Opposition events, together with DMK, were urging the state and central governments to protect the business.


Edappadi noted that the listening to of the case pertaining to prohibit on bursting of crackers was arising within the Supreme Court on February 22. "The state government will depute senior legal professionals to argue the case in favour of the cracker business,'' he mentioned. In addition, the state will even urge the Centre to exempt cracker business from the purview of the Environment Protection Act.


To a question on sidelined AIADMK chief T T V Dhinakaran walking out of the meeting, Edappadi mentioned he would favor talking best about "just right other people" at a time when the state was gearing up for birthday celebration of auspicious Pongal.
