Drive to keep animals away from airport's periphery

BHUBANESWAR: To loose the periphery of Biju Patnaik International Airport of stray livestock, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday launched a distinct force. The airport government had earlier brought this risk to the notice of the civic frame.

The stray animals pose a risk in the airport's operational spaces and outside the boundary. The canines leave animal waste with reference to the airport boundary that pulls birds. The cows and bulls pose a huge risk to the commuters as they're observed at the roads resulting in the airport and interior roads.


The squad will continue to investigate cross-check the roads and close to the airport boundary till all stray livestock are caught. "The cattle will be kept under BMCs custody and the owners will be fined Rs 100 a day when they come to claim the animal," said BMC deputy commissioner (enforcement) Abani Patnaik. Officials said BMC has additionally deliberate to organize a list of the livestock owners close to the airport space. "The database will help us contact them in case they don't come to claim the animal. A warning will also be issued to them not to leave their cattle for grazing near the airport," said Patnaik.


The BMC has formed a team of atmosphere engineers from Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cell for special monitoring of airport space. The team will carry out atmosphere have an effect on analysis at common periods on the airport that come with checking the movement of stray livestock and management of forged waste. "The team will also ensure that the fish and meat shops close to the airport boundary are shut," said a BMC officer. Sources said despite eviction of meat and fish shops, they come up again. Since the shops draw in birds, they'd been known and close ultimate yr.


The airport is steadily increasing as more aircrafts are beginning operations from right here. It is now crucial hub of air operation with two direct international flights.
