LAGOS, Nigeria: A Nigerian official says gunmen shot dead a minimum of 17 worshippers who had attended a church service to usher in the brand new year.
The chairman of a local people staff, Osi Olisa, stated Tuesday that the gunmen also shot folks at the street prior to escaping.
No staff has claimed duty for the assault in Rivers State, despite the fact that suspicion has fallen on an armed staff believed to be in the back of kidnappings and killings in the house.
In November, local defence teams and security officers shot dead the group's leader.
Gun violence is common in parts of Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta region, where more than a few militant teams soak up palms towards multinational firms to demand a proportion of the oil proceeds.
