Lukewarm response to Jan Sampark Diwas

BHUBANESWAR: The Jan Sampark Diwas, a micro-level grievance camp arranged by means of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, won a lukewarm reaction from the people.
Despite an enormous consciousness campaign in the run-up to the programme, only a few people grew to become up on the 12 sub-zones the place the camp was held. The BMC won round 15 grievances, as in opposition to the 168 it had won in the first camp on December 16.

The Jan Sampark Diwas is a grievance redress mechanism held in all 67 wards of the BMC each and every fortnight. Issues equivalent to development of family latrines, ration distribution below the National Food Security Act, the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, old-age pension, sanitation, encroachment and removing of debris are some of the problems on which people lodged proceedings.

"Of the 168 grievances received in the first camp, we have resolved 80. Since today's camp coincided with New Year's Day, many people gave it a miss," mentioned a spokesperson of the BMC.

On December 10, the BMC had ready a map appearing the places the place the Jan Sampark camps can be held. A deputy commissioner of the BMC acts as the nodal officer of the proceedings.

Sources in the BMC mentioned they'd review the reaction. "If needed, we will plan new ways of making people aware of the programme. The ward officers will be asked to keep people informed on the fortnightly camp," mentioned an officer.

Poor attendance becomes an issue particularly since the civic body cancels all other assignments at the day of the camp.
