NHRC seeks report from Odisha govt on deaths due to suspected kidney disease

BHUBANESWAR: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action taken report from health secretary of the state on death of round 30 other people from six villages of Angul district because of suspected kidney illness. It has requested the government to publish report inside of 4 weeks.
The fee on Monday issued the direction after hearing a petition filed via rights campaigner Sangita Swain on October 17 remaining year. In her petition, she mentioned that round 30 other people from Luhasingha village of Athmallik block, Jharakilinda and Badasada villages of Palalahada block, Bhangamunda and Dalapaka of Kishorenagar block and Hamamira village of Angul block had been died of kidney comparable illnesses.

The petitioner stated drinking water might be the reason in the back of the spread of kidney illness in the space. More than 100 other people had been affected in the suspected kidney illnesses all through remaining five years. She steered the fee to take action in opposition to the involved authorities for not taking preventive steps to regulate the illness.

Anil Kumar Samal, collector of Angul district, stated he has already discussed the issue with the government. "We had sent a local medical team to the villages to take stock of the situation. They had collected samples of drinking water sources, but they could not find out the cause," he added.


Samal stated he has written a letter to the health division for a detail learn about on the villages to find out the reason of the suspected kidney illnesses. "I have requested the government to send an expert team from the SCB medical college and hospital to conduct study on the medical situation. We are expecting the team to start the study," he added.


Chittaranjan Kar, professor of nephrology division at the SCB clinical school and clinic, stated he's conscious about the issue in the space. Patients of Angul district come to him for consultation and remedy for kidney ailments.


"We have already conducted study in some areas of the districts like Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nayagarh and Cuttack. Causes of kidney disease are not similar in every place," he added.


Kar stated he has cited 4 main reasons of this illness. These were- consumption of spurious liquor, operating in an excessively warmth situation, drinking water from deep bore wells in hilly areas and mindless use of nephrotoxic antibiotic prescribed via quacks. "But we need a deep study of the issue by conducting medical investigations in the areas to come up with the exact cause of the problem. Small studies will not work," stated the nephrologist, in-charge of the kidney transplant unit of the SCB.
