COIMBATORE: The Corporation Elementary School at Saramedu that has 99 scholars has been functioning with just one teacher for the final 3 months. As consistent with govt norms, there must be one teacher for each and every 30 scholars.
The school, established in 1967, conducts categories from I to V. "The enrolment had gone down to 60 a few years ago. But, for the last two years, the number has been close to 100. However, the lack of amenities and shortage of teachers is prompting parents to take their children out of the school," stated headmaster Sundara Kumar.
On Friday, a number of oldsters accrued outside the college and staged a protest. Mohana Ok, mother of two kids who study at the school, stated the one teacher has been handling all categories for more than 3 months. "A trainee teacher, who was appointed here, left within a few days. Our children's future is at stake. The school badly lacks infrastructure. It does not even have a compound wall. Motor vehicles pass through the school ground all the time. Children also run to the road," she instructed TOI. As home tasks workforce cook on the school's terrace, a hearth accident can happen anytime, she added.
A Hajeema, some other guardian, stated oldsters who can not find the money for private schools ship their kids to the corporation school. "My son, a class II student, has been studying well till November. Since November, not a single class has been conducted due to shortage of teachers. We are not asking for A-grade facilities. How can a school function without teachers?" she requested.
The corporation schooling officer was once unavailable for remark. An professional instructed TOI that a teacher named Sakthivel, who used to teach elegance I and II scholars, was once lately transferred to some other school, leaving the other teacher, Kilakavathi, overburdened.
"Another teacher, who was appointed to this school, has filed a case and his appointment has been stalled," the professional stated.
The oldsters demanded the schooling division to make change arrangements and appoint some other teacher. "We will petition the district collector regarding the issue on Monday," stated Hajeema.
