Ruling class is dominating media: Writer

DHARWAD: Senior creator Narahalli Balsubrahmanya alleged that the 'ruling magnificence' in India is dominating the media and looking to curb the voice of dissent through the usage of brute drive. He termed this as a development that harms democracy within the country.
Delivering the keynote address on the inaugural day of the Dharwad Sahitya Sambhrama right here on Friday, he recalled the worry expressed through poet Gopalkrishna Adiga within the 70's about the assault on freedom of expression and said this sort of state of affairs is emerging again now at each the state and national -level.

Bhakti movement

Narahalli hailed the position performed through bhakti (devotion) movement in Kannada literature. Though bhakti is used by religion and political parties to suit their goals, it was once Kannada literature which used bhakti as a mode of getting free from the clutches of the faith, he said.

Referring to digitalisation, t he creator said that Kannada has to prepare itself for digitalisation. The 150-year-old New York Times newspaper too has closed its print version and has gone digital. There is stupendous expansion of digital readership and for the survival of Kannada language, it's inevitable to move digital, he famous.


Foreign universities are putting in place language laboratories and feature taken up new researches. They are looking to divide language and tradition and knitting them with a brand new wisdom and extending it to all parts of the sector.


However, no such efforts are noticed within the Indian universities, he felt.
