GHAZIABAD: The town police has busted an inter-state gang of robbers who looted vans from Ghaziabad and close by districts and took them to Punjab's Sangrur district where they were cut into items and bought as scarp. Three participants of the group have been arrested, while four others are absconding, police mentioned.
The accused have been recognized as Khushi Mohammad, Yaseen (each citizens of Khiwai village in Meerut district) and Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Khanauri in Sangrur district, Punjab. The police recovered one truck, one automotive, one pistol and one knife, but even so scraps in addition to paperwork of another truck and Rs 1.1 lakh through which it was bought, from their ownership.
The accused were arrested on Thursday night from near Chipiyana Fatak after a temporary encounter by way of Kotwali police. With the arrest of the accused, police claimed to have solved two such incidents which took place on the night of December 28 and 29, and another on January 1-2. In the second one incident, iron pipes value round Rs 4 lakh were provide within the car, which were bought by way of the accused.
SP (City) Akash Tomar mentioned, "All the gang members involved in looting trucks are residents of Khiwai village in Meerut. We have information that more than five persons were involved in each incident. Their modus operandi is to start from the village and follow a truck and then rob it in outskirts of Ghaziabad after overpowering the driver in a secluded area. After dumping its driver, they used to sell the vehicle in Sangrur where Mukesh ran a repairing shop. Mukesh informed that it took just five hours for his team to dismantle a truck. Its parts were sold in the scrap market."
"Besides their contacts in Punjab, police are also trying to ascertain their links in Meerut. Accused have been to jail in past as well. In one case they had stolen a vehicle in Sardhana, Meerut. While Khushi Mohammad is the coordinator of robbers for such loots, Mukesh was in Ghaziabad to finalize more such deals of stolen trucks," the senior official added.
