Water scarcity in twin cities due to govt apathy: Shettar

Hubballi: There is a synthetic water scarcity in the twin towns due to the government's negligence, alleged BJP leader Jagadish Shettar, who represents the Hubballi-Dharwad Central assembly constituency.
He was once talking to journalists after a gathering with officers of the BRTS, water board, HDMC and other executive departments on Tuesday. Shettar stated that Vidyanagar, Unkal and other areas, excluding wards integrated in the 24x7 drinking water supply project, don't seem to be getting drinking water because the previous 10-12 days.

"After receiving hundreds of complaints, we held a meeting with officials where we learnt that uncontrolled BRTS works are affecting water supply to the city. Water board officials produced pictures of damaged pipelines and said they are struggling to repair the damages. We noted that lack of coordination between the departments concerned is hampering water supply. We instructed BRTS officials to be careful while digging roads," he stated.

Shettar stated that chief minister Siddaramaiah is not approving Rs 24 crore project which is objectives at lifting an extra 40 MLD of water from Malaprabha river to satisfy the drinking water wishes of the dual towns. "We have Rs 17 crore with the water board and can mobilize the remaining amount from the HDMC. The government need not sanction a single paisa, but has just give nod to the project. District in-charge minister Vinay Kulkarni had assured of implementing the project, but is least bothered about it," he stated.

Shettar stated that in December, 2017, Siddarmaiah promised the discharge of Rs 130 crore for the pending pension quantity of retired HDMC staff in 15 days. "There is still no sign of the amount," he stated.

He warned that the BJP will cling another agitation in opposition to the state executive if it persevered neglecting the dual towns. Corporators Mahesh Burli and Umeshgouda Koujageri had been present on the occasion.
