ZP seeks Bengal gram procurement centres

Dharwad: The Dharwad zilla panchayat has handed a answer, urging the government to arrange Bengal gram procurement centres in the district and facilitate the growers. A decision to this impact used to be taken on the zilla panchayat's basic body assembly here on Thursday.
Chairing the assembly, ZP president Chaitra Shirur directed the agriculture division to immediately ship a proposal to the government and begin measures to open procurement centres in APMCs and PACS.

She mentioned that farmers in the district, who faced drought for the previous four years, got some respite due to good rains in September/October and had been expecting good rabi yield. Many farmers had opted for Bengal gram in the rabi season and now the crop is able for harvest. "Unfortunately, there is price crash in the domestic market and hence, the farmers are once again depressed. To protect their interests and see that their efforts do not go in vain, there is need to open procurement centres," she mentioned.

In reaction, joint director of agriculture T Rudresh mentioned that the government has already announced a minimal toughen value of Rs four,400 for Bengal gram. This aside, the deputy commissioner has written to the government, in search of permission to open procurement centres. The executive too has approached the Union agriculture ministry, in search of its toughen to open procurement centres as this demand has come from all parts of the state. Once the Centre is of the same opinion, Bengal gram procurement centre would be opened in 3 days, he added.

Speaking on farm ponds, Chaitra directed the officials to deal with quality in development of ponds. She mentioned that henceforth, even the taluk degree officials have to wait the ZP assembly and provides main points at the growth of the schemes.

After members complained that some officials aren't attending gram sabhas, Chaitra directed that it is compulsory to wait the meetings. Even ZP members will have to be invited to take part in taluk panchayat assembly, she mentioned.

Cutting throughout birthday party affiliations, the members raised hue and cry over the extend in development of check dams. Joining the refrain, Chaitra mentioned, "It was decided to construct four check dams in every ZP constituency and even survey was taken up. But no check dams have been constructed so far."

ZP CEO Snehal Rayamane mentioned that to construct check dams under the NREGS, gram panchayats have to include it in their action plan. If they ship a proposal to this impact, the ZP can assemble check dams in every ZP constituency. However, the ZP can not devote anything in this until action plan is submitted, she clarified.

Discussions on faculty constructions and anganwadi centres had been held.
