An afternoon after Army leader General Bipin Rawat stated All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has grown quicker than BJP, at least three opposition parties — CPM, AIUDF and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen — got here down heavily on him for creating a “political” commentary and sought the President’s intervention. Asked about Gen Rawat’s commentary, chief of the opposition within the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, stated, “I would now not love to remark in this. CPM politburo member Brinda Karat stated Gen Rawat’s comments had been “irrelevant” and seemed to be aimed toward “politicising” the Army. “He has crossed the constitutional Lakshan rekha that separates the Army and politics. The President of India, as superb commander of the Army, should step in and make sure this is not repeated,” she added.
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi wanted to know if the Centre agreed with the Army leader’s remark, including that the previous’s silence would mean that Gen Rawat had made the commentary at the behest of the government and “with its blessings”. He tweeted, “Politics within the Army is poison. Keep off it.”
